Job Summary:

Assistant Vice President, Associate General Counsel, based in Singapore, will assist with the legal, regulatory and compliance affairs of the Singapore and Australia branches of Allied World, as well as the other branches in the Asia Pacific Group, including Hong Kong and Labuan, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

·Assist with the legal, regulatory and compliance affairs of the Singapore and Australia branches, as well as the other branches in the Asia Pacific Group, including Hong Kong and Labuan, as needed

·Provide expert legal advice, services and guidance on all aspects of law to ensure the business is kept up-to-date with legal developments and is compliant with relevant laws and regulations

·Maintain knowledge of client’s current business activities, and maintain awareness of statutory laws, regulations and judicial developments, assessing the likely business impact and advising of changes

·Draft, review and negotiate third-party contracts

·Review local advertising and consumer facing materials and work with the business to ensure consistency with applicable law

·Manage any disputes, as needed, to ensure local business interests are protected and potential loss and damages are mitigated

·Assist in managing and developing the overall relationship with local regulators so as to ensure consistent and appropriate representation at all levels

·Work effectively with other personnel in the legal and compliance and other departments globally to contribute to and implement Group initiatives, share best practices and enable effective communication and understanding of global/regional legal, regulatory and compliance issues

·Assist with corporate governance and compliance requirements

·Work with and manage external counsel, as needed

·Manage special projects as assigned from time to time

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirement:

·Qualified / licensed solicitor in Singapore and/or Australia

·5 to 7 years of experience in a major law firm or relevant in-house environment

·Experience with insurance and reinsurance matters within Asia Pacific

·Experience dealing with local regulators in Singapore and/or Australia

·Knowledge of insurance and other laws and regulations in Singapore and/or Australia, as well as other Asia Pacific jurisdictions

·Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills

·Excellent communication (written and verbal), as well as strong interpersonal skills

·Ability to consider local, regional and Group business considerations when providing legal advice

·Ability to independently negotiate and draft general third-party contracts

·Capable of working independently, as well as in a team environment

·Excellent drafting skills

·Superior proficiency in English

·Able to travel occasionally as required.
