Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and commercial Junior Lawyer looking for an alternative legal career path to practise as a Conflicts Solicitor in our New Business Intake Team in Sydney. This is a varied and challenging role that will allow you to use your legal skill set and provide you with a unique insight into the firm's global clients and sectors.
New Business Intake falls under the General Counsel & Risk function and we are responsible for the management of conflicts of interest and information barriers globally.

We play a key role in the development and shaping of firm strategy globally by liaising with Sector Lead Partners, Regional/Global Heads of Practice and Business Development to ensure that any new instructions comply with our professional obligations under the applicable Solicitors Conduct Rules are a commercial fit for the firm.
Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on the resolution of complex legal and commercial conflicts problems and liaising with Partners and staff in relation to conflicts issues and queries.

  • Ensuring compliance with global sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering obligations.

  • Reviewing, drafting, and advising on conflict provisions in firm engagement letters, firm policies and other client agreements including panel arrangements.

This role will be well-suited to an individual who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment, with proven ability to critically analyse key information, communicate effectively with Partner and Senior Management and prioritise a busy workload.

 

Job Requirements:

 

To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • Law degree and admitted to practise as a Solicitor in Australia 

  • Excellent research, legal and other analytical skills

  • Good commercial awareness.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work autonomously is essential but candidates also need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work as a part of a global analytical team.

  • Excellent verbal, written and face to face communication skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
